Project Description
Sharon Franklin and Dr. Mark Rasmussen: Scanning electron
microscopic study of protozoa isolated from rumen fluid. This
project examined the diversity of species of protozoa found in
cows, sheep, and goats (image at right; bar = 200µm).
Procedures and Equipment
Protozoan specimens were fixed, dehydrated and dried with a Denton
CPD-1 critical point drier. Organisms were placed onto carbon
adhesive coated aluminum stubs and sputter-coated with a Denton
Desk II Sputter coater and imaged using a JEOL 5800LV scanning
electron microscope at 10 kV with an ADDA II image capture
controller and SIS Pro software.
